Bourn to Run

Following last week’s notably hilly outing to Suffolk, this week’s flattish one around South Cambs made for a pleasant change. So it was that eleven Windmillers set off from Duxford heading for Whittlesford, the Shelfords, Grantchester, Cottenham and Bourn, where Jeremy, this week’s ride leader, had booked us in for coffee and cake at The Stove.

Jeremy’s group at The Stove

Having split into two groups, Jeremy’s was first to arrive at the café. Thankfully, they didn’t scoff all the cake, leaving just enough for Brian and the second group who arrived shortly afterwards (though Charles did manage to hoover up prodigious amounts of hot chocolate and chocolate cake, not to mention cream and marshmallow topping. Where does he put it all?)

Brian’s group – looking a bit lost

Returning via the Eversdens, Haslingfield and Harston, and with the wind now at our backs, we made short work of the homeward leg to Duxford and Café 19.

Aperitifs – mostly Spitfire Brown Ale – before lunch

For the record the turnout was: Alan, Brian, Charles, Geoff, Howard, Jeremy, Keith, Neil, Paul, Rod and Victor – with Ken and Ric joining us along the way and Maurice meeting us for lunch.

Ah, lunch!

Thanks go to Jeremy for organising the ride and Charles for the many photographs.
